On March 3, 2023, while having lunch at a roadside restaurant, we witnessed something that stopped us cold. In the pouring rain, a thin, weary dog was moving her puppies, one by one, with her mouth. She was soaked, exhausted, and desperate to find shelter for her babies. Each trip she made across the muddy ground and back again was a powerful act of love.
We asked the waiter about her, and he told us that she’d recently given birth nearby. The rains had been relentless, and every time their hiding place flooded or got too exposed, she moved the puppies to a drier, safer spot. She was doing everything she could to protect them—, but she was alone, with no help, and right beside a dangerously busy road.
We couldn’t leave her behind.
We brought Carolina and her four puppies with us that day. It was clear she had been through so much, yet she never stopped caring for her babies. Thanks to our incredible supporters, all of her puppies have since been adopted into loving homes. And now, Carolina is safe with us, loved, respected, and never alone again.
