Meet Eva, one of our most resilient rescues. We found her at the end of 2023 in heartbreaking condition—dragging her paralyzed back legs down the hot streets, suffering immensely. To our horror, Eva had undergone a botched surgery on her spine. Whoever attempted to operate on her not only failed to help her but cruelly abandoned her back on the streets to fend for herself.
When we took Eva in, it became clear that her paralysis was permanent. Despite this, we were determined to give her the best life possible. Thanks to our incredible supporters, we’ve been able to provide Eva with a couple of custom wheelchairs, allowing her to explore and run around the sanctuary every day. She has dedicated playtimes in her wheelchair and loves spending time with her dog friends, always showing us her playful and joyful spirit.
Eva requires round-the-clock care. When she’s not in her wheelchair, we apply ointments and barrier creams to protect her legs from sores and redness as she drags them behind her. She also needs a constantly clean environment to ensure her health and comfort. While we never rule out adoption, Eva’s extensive needs make it unlikely for her to find a home outside the sanctuary.
Eva is available for sponsorship to help cover the cost of her ongoing care, including ointments, barrier creams, wheelchair maintenance, and anything else she needs to stay happy and healthy. It was a huge hassle to get her chair to Brazil. After fundraising specifically for the chair, we had it shipped in the beginning of February, only to have it stuck in customs in Brazil for just about a month. They wanted over $1,400 as a tax fee in order to release it from hold in customs. INSANE!!!!
Brazil customs FINALLY released the wheelchair and shipped it back to the States, and we personally brought it on the plane with us to Brazil just this past weekend.
She will be monitored during several periods throughout the day where she will be set up in her chair. Obviously she can’t be in it all day long, as she needs to relax and lay down.

We will have a long journey with Eva. Her treatment process requires 25 to 30 sessions, 2 times per week. The physiotherapy, along with the laser therapy sessions will help with the healing process, as well as reducing the swelling.
She has no forecast to get a wheelchair as of yet. With the physiotherapy and laser therapy sessions, we will see if they will help with her mobility at all.
If she’s a candidate for a wheelchair, we will know in the future, but it’s too early to know right now. At the moment, she cannot have a wheelchair, because it will hinder her therapy.
